The College of Paramedics
The College of Paramedics is the professional body for the paramedic profession. It was formed in 2001 (then the British Paramedic Association) following the establishment of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in order to represent the profession in both its liaison with the HCPC and to fulfill the professional obligations of self regulated standards of education. Its stated aims are:
The College has taken a significant role in providing the voice of the paramedic profession, and pursuant to its roles of professional liaison and the maintenance of education standards has become a focal component of the professions drive towards self-determination.
- To strengthen and develop the profession and represent the interests of its practitioners
- To raise the general awareness of the existing and potential contribution of the profession to patient care
- To encourage and share good clinical practice and high standards of care
- To develop and expand the potential of the profession for contributing to patient care in a modern health service
- To represent the views of the profession to government, employers and other external bodies
- To encourage higher standards of initial and continuing professional education and development
- To commission, report and analyse research in out of hospital patient care
